Ginger is native to Asia. It has been used as a culinary and medicinal spice for several thousand years. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ginger is filled with Yang energy that warms the body, and helps to settle digestion and calm upset stomach. Ginger Essential Oil blends beautifully with lemon and sweet orange.

Ginger Essential Oil is spicy and warming, which is perfect for winter months. Ginger Essential Oil helps to improve circulation. It combines well with Cypress to treat chilblains. It's a frequent addition to therapeutic massage blends for arthritis, rheumatism, muscle aches and pains.

Ginger is strongly associated with the digestive system. It is probably the primary digestive oil in an aromatherapist’s box. Ginger Essential Oil is one of the best natural remedies for indigestion, colic, diarrhoea, flatulence, nausea and stomach cramps. It is also a great stimulant for the appetite. Mix a drop with a teaspoon of carrier oil and massage into your abdomen to aid digestion.

A few drops inhaled from a tissue helps to relieve travel sickness and nausea, especially when combined with peppermint essential oil.

Therapeutically, ginger oil is warming, invigorating and stimulating. It is a hot and tonifying oil for use in cold and weak conditions. Its warming qualities are good to use for feelings of loneliness and winter depression. It helps with fatigue and physical exhaustion. For those who suffer from a lack of confidence, indecision, or loss of motivation, ginger oil helps to bring strength, determination and clarity. In many ancient cultures it was used as an aphrodisiac to “ginger up” romance.

Add 10 – 15 drops to a diffuser.

Alternatively add 5 drops to a warm bath, or 1 to 2 drops to your chosen base oil for a relaxing massage.
